ลักษณะทั่วไปเป็นไม้ยืนต้นสูง 10–25 เมตร ใบเป็นใบเดี่ยวออกตรงข้าม แผ่นใบรูปรีหรือรูปไข่กลับ ปลายใบแหลม โคนใบมน ดอกสีขาว ออกเป็นช่อตามง่ามใบ เกสรยาวเป็นพู่ ผลเป็นผลสดรูปรี
