ต้นอากาเว่ (Century plant)

              อากาเว่นี้เป็นไม้ประดับที่อยู่ในตระกูลเดียวกับป่านศรนารายณ์ ต้นที่โตเต็มที่จะสูงประมาณ 2.5 เมตร ใบจะมีสีเขียวอมเทานิดๆบางต้นอาจมีใบยาวถึง 2 เมตร ที่ขอบใบจะมีหนามแข็งๆ เต็มไปหมด อากาเว่เป็นพืชที่ทนต่อความแห้งแล้งและการขาดน้ำได้เป็นอย่างดี อีกทั้งการเจริญเติบโตยังช้ารอีดด้วย กล่าวกันว่ากว่าที่ อากาเว่จะออกดอกได้อาจต้องใช้เวลานับ 10 ปี เลยทีเดียว

การดูแลรักษา
แสง     ต้องการแสงแดดมาก
น้ำ        ต้องการน้ำน้อย อาจจะรดน้ำอาทิตย์ละครั้ง ก็ได้
ดิน       เจริญเติบโตได้ดีในดินร่วนทราย
ปุ๋ย       ให้ปุ๋ยคอกหรือปุ๋ยหมักปีละประมาณ 2 ครั้ง
การขยายพันธุ์     แยกหน่อและเพาะเมล็ด
โรคและแมลง     ทนต่อโรคและแมลงมาก จึงไม่ค่อยจะพบเห็นเท่าไหร่ 


ประโยชน์
             ปลูกเป็นไม้ประดับ ทำรั้วกันขโมยเพราะมีหนามจึงไม่ควรใช้ในสนามเด็กเล่นเส้นใยทำเชือก กระเป๋าถือ เสื้อผ้า
