ไม้ล้มลุก ใบอ่อนนุ่ม มีรูปร่างหลายลักษณะ ส่วนมากขอบ ใบจะเว้าเป็นหยักลึก ตามลำต้นและใบมีขนอ่อนปกคลุมช่อดอก ประกอบด้วยดอกเล็ก ๆจำนวนมาก ดอกมีสีขาวสีเหลือง สีแดง สีม่วงอ่อน และสีน้ำตาล พบปลูกเป็นการค้ากันทั่วโลก เป็นไม้ กลางแจ้ง ต้องการความชื้นในดินสูง ขยายพันธุ์โดยใช้เมล็ด แยกหน่อปักชำ และการเพาะเลี้ยงเนื้อเยื่อ
