ลักษณะทั่วไป
เป็นไม้ยืนต้นผลัดใบ สูง 5–10 เมตร กิ่งอ่อนมีหนามเรือนยอดเป็นพุ่มกลมโปร่ง ใบเป็นใบประกอบแบบขนนก มีใบย่อย 3 ใบ ใบกลางจะโตกว่าสองใบด้านข้าง ออกดอกเป็นช่อยาวประมาณ 30–40 ซ.ม. รูปดอกถั่ว สีแดงเข้ม ออกดอกระหว่างเดือนมกราคม-กุมภาพันธ์ ผลเป็นฝักยาว 15–30 ซ.ม.
