ลักษณะทั่วไปเป็นไม้ยืนต้นสูง 30–40 เมตร เรือนยอดเป็นพุ่มทึบ ลำต้นเปลาตรง เปลือกสีน้ำตาลเข้มล่อนเป็นสะเก็ด มียางชันสีขาว ใบ เป็นใบเดี่ยวเรียงสลับ แผ่นใบรูปหอกหรือรูปดาบ ปลายใบแหลม โคนใบสอบ ออกดอกเป็นช่อตามง่ามใบและปลายกิ่ง สีขาว กลิ่นหอม ออกดอกช่วงเดือนเมษายน-มิถุนายน
