ชื่ออื่น : มะหนุน หมักหมี๊ หมากลาง ลักษณะ : ไม้ต้น ขนาดใหญ่ สูง 15 - 30 เมตร ลำต้นและกิ่งเมื่อมีบาดแผลจะมีน้ำยางสีขาวข้นคล้ายน้ำนมไหล ใบ เป็นใบเดี่ยว เรียงสลับ แผ่นใบรูปรี ขนาดกว้าง 5-8 เซนติเมตร ยาว 10 - 15 เซนติเมตร ปลายใบทู่ ถึงแหลม โคนใบมน ผิวในด้านบนสีเขียวเข้มเป็นมัน เนื้อใบหนาผิวใบด้านล่างจะสากมือ ดอก เป็นช่อแบบช่อเชิงสดแยกเพศอยู่รวมกัน ดอกเพศผู้เรียกว่า "ส่า" มักออกตามปลายกิ่ง ดอกเพศเมียจะออกตามกิ่งใหญ่และตามลำต้นยอดเกสรเพศเมีย เป็นหนามแหลม การออกดอก จะออกปีละ 2 ครั้ง คือ ช่วงเดือนธันวาคม - มกราคม และเมษายน - พฤษภาคม ส่วนของเนื้อที่รับประทานเจริญมาจากกลีบดอก ส่วนซังคือกลีบเลี้ยง ผล เป็นผลรวมมีขนาดใหญ่
