ไม้พุ่มเตี้ยขนาดเล็ก ใบรูปรีออเป็นคู่แบบสลับ ตามซื้อของลำต้น ปกติใบจะมีสีเขียว แต่ถูกแดดจัด จะมีสีม่วงบนใบ ออกดอกเป็นช่อก้านช่อดอก แข็งชูตั้งตรง แต่ละช่อดอกมีดอกย่อยประมาณ 50 ดอก มีสีส้มจนถึงสีแสด ออกดอกราวเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ ถึงเดือนมีนาคม และช่วงเดือนกรกฎาคมถึงกันยายน พบขึ้นตามป่าโปร่งแห้งแล้งทั่วไป ขยายพันธุ์โดย การตัดชำและการตอน
