ลักษณะทั่วไป
เป็นไม้ยืนต้นผลัดใบสูง 8–25 เมตร เปลือกเรียบ กิ่งแตกรอบลำต้นตามแนวนอนเป็นชั้นๆ คล้ายฉัตร ใบเป็นใบเดี่ยว ออกเวียนสลับถี่ตอนปลายกิ่ง ใบรูปไข่ ปลายใบแหลมเป็นติ่งสั้นๆ โคนใบสอบแคบ เว้า ออกดอกเป็นช่อตามซอกใบ ขนาดเล็ก สีขาวนวล ออกดอกช่วงเดือนกุมภาพันธ์-เมษายน ผลเป็นรูปไข่หรือรูปรีป้อมๆ แบนเล็กน้อย เมื่อแห้งสีดำคล้ำ
