เป็นไม้พุ่ม สูงประมาณ 2 - 5 เมตร แตกกิ่งยืดยาวจำนวนมาก เป็นไม้ดอกหอมสกุลเดียวกับราตรีคนไทยรู้จักกันมาไม่ต่ำกว่า 20 ปี ออกดอกดกส่งกลิ่นหอมฟุ้ง ใบมีลักษณะรูปรีแกมใบหอกขอบใบเป็นคลื่น ดอกออกเป็นช่อตามซอกใบที่ปลายกิ่ง ดอกเล็ก มี 5 - 6 กลีบ ปลายกลีบม้วนออกกลิ่นหอมตอนกลางวัน เมล็ดแก่เป็นสีดำซึ่งต่างจากราตรีที่เป็นสีขาว
