ดาหลาเป็นพืชในตระกูลเดียวกับขิง ข่า มีลำต้นอยู่ใต้ดิน ชูส่วนของใบและก้านใบขึ้นมาเป็นกลุ่ม สูง 1-2 เมตร ใบสี เขียวเข้มใบแบนเป็นรูปหอก ปลายใบแหลม โคนใบสอบแคบเข้าหากันออกดอกในฤดูฝน สีแดงสดหรือสี ชมพู เป็นดอกเดี่ยวมีกลีบซ้อนทับกันหลายชั้น เป็นพืชที่ต้องการร่มเงา เจริญเติบโตดี ในดินมี ความชื้นสูง พบในเขตร้อนทั่วไป สามารถขยายพันธุ์ได้ โดยการแยกหน่อ

Kahla is a plant of the same family as ginger, galangal, an underground stem. The leaves and leaf holds up a group of 1-2 meters high, dark green leaves form a flat end of a spearpointed towards the narrow leaf flowering in the rainy season. Red or pink color of the flowerpetals are overlapping layers. Plants that require shade. Grows well in soils with high humidity found in tropical climate. Can reproduce. By separating the shoots.
