ลักษณะทั่วไป
เป็นไม้ยืนต้นขนาดใหญ่ สูง 15–25 เมตร เปลือกต้นสีน้ำตาลดำแตกเป็นสะเก็ด เปลือกในมีน้ำเลี้ยงสีแดง เนื้อไม้สีขาวอมเหลือง แก่นสีน้ำตาลแกมแดง เรือนยอดเป็นพุ่มกลมทึบ ใบเป็นใบประกอบแบบขนนกเรียงสลับ ใบย่อยรูปไข่ขอบขนาน ปลายใบเป็นติ่ง โคนใบมน ออกดอกเป็นช่อที่ซอกใบ รูปดอกถั่ว กลีบดอกสีเหลืองอ่อนกลิ่นหอม ผลแผ่เป็นปีกแบนๆ มีขนาดใหญ่กว่าประดู่บ้าน และมีขนปกคลุมทั่วไป
