ลักษณะทั่วไป
เป็นไม้ยืนต้นผลัดใบสูง 5–20 เมตร กิ่งอ่อนมีขนสีน้ำตาลแดงปกคลุมบางๆ ต่อมาจะหลุดร่วงไป ใบเป็นใบเดี่ยวเรียงสลับ แผ่นใบรูปไข่ถึงรูปหอก ปลายใบแหลม โคนใบทู่ถึงกลม ออกดอกเป็นกระจุก ดอกขนาดเล็ก ผลรูปไข่กลับ เมื่อสุกสีแดงเข้มถึงม่วงขยายพันธุ์
